It’s Time to Get Toxic Chemicals out of our Products

The 2021 annual report card scoring retailer actions on toxic chemicals is now live. About 2/3 of the companies have made progress over the last year. And because companies heard from consumers like you, four retailers that earned Fs on the last report card climbed out of the hole and got higher grades: McDonald’s, TJX Companies (owner of TJ Maxx and Marshalls), Ulta Beauty, and Yum! Brands (owner of Taco Bell, Pizza Hut & KFC).

But 7-Eleven, 99 Cents Only, Ace Hardware, Burger King, Circle K, Metro, Nordstrom, Publix, Sally Beauty, Sobeys, Starbucks, and Subway all failed to take substantial public steps to protect customers from toxic chemicals in products and packaging.

LDA believes all products should be free of chemicals that harm children’s brain health. But a quarter of the retailers analyzed by #MindTheStore report card lack any public policy to address toxic chemicals, earning F grades.
