Healthy Children Project Monthly e-News

This e-newsletter is a publication of the Learning Disabilities Association of Michigan's Healthy Children Project (HCP). Its purpose is to select and summarize the most pertinent, current information about environmental factors that impact developing fetuses, the newborn or young children and the actions we can take to minimize or eliminate those factors. Michigan's Healthy Children Project e-newsletter will be published every month.

Environmental Campaigns Geared Toward Kids

PBS Kids: Arthur's Go Green Challenge

This website provides information and printable activities that children can follow in an effort to make small changes, which can add up to big results for our planet. Included are activities on water, transportation, clothing, energy, outdoors, food, and everyday choices.
 

Disney's Friends for Change: Project Green

Children are encouraged to make a pledge to do something that benefits the environment. They are encouraged to do simple things such as turn off a light when you leave a room, limit the time you spend in the shower with the water running, brushing your teeth without running the water the entire time, recycling, unplugging unused electronics, and dozens more.

 

Nickelodeon: The Big Green Help

Nickelodeon has made an effort to incorporate numerous characters from their live action and animated shows in order to engage children. Their website features over 75 video games, clips and episodes with an environmental theme. They also feature everyday kids making a difference in their homes, schools, and communities.

 

Disney's The Little Mermaid: Keep Oceans Clean Campaign

This website features interactive games as a way to enforce good habits in young children. Among the ideals here are ways to reduce waste which can end up in our oceans, using environmentally safe products, water conservation, and more.

Maggie's Earth Adventures

The stories and activities that comprise each unit in Maggie's Earth Adventures are presented to introduce students to actual environmental issues and to motivate students to delve deeper into the issues presented. Standards-based activities are an important part of each of these adventures. Teachers will find on-line activities and a multitude of printable lessons in the Teachers' Lounge section to correlate with the animated stories. Each classroom and learning situation is unique so teachers are encouraged to pick and choose the activities that best meet their students' needs.

Nature Challenge for Kids

When you leave this place, you'll know much more about what you can do to help protect the environment.
